Unfolding more or less in real time, Premium Rush follows a headstrong bike messenger (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who runs afoul of a corrupt NYC cop (Michael Shannon) keen on seizing his latest cargo. It’s a straightforward concept, but director David Koepp (Ghost Town) calls the film ”the most f—ed-up, difficult logistical thing I’ve ever done.” For one thing, the 2010 production occurred during New York’s hottest summer on record. For another, a collision with a cab resulted in 32 stitches in Gordon-Levitt’s right arm. What will Koepp’s next gig be? ”Whatever it is, I would like it to be people in rooms, talking.”
